Dr. Yusuf A. Kumble, who is a pioneer in complex coronary interventions, including image-guided LMCA stenting, bifurcation and multi-vessel PCI, heads the Department of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Indiana Hospital, Mangaluru, besides being the hospital’s managing director. He has performed over 22,000 procedures in coronary intervention like image-guided (OCT-guided) LMCA stenting, bifurcation and primary and multi-vessel PCI. He is also a pioneer in heart failure device implant, CHD, SHD and paediatric interventions.

Personal life & Academic career

Dr. Yusuf was born in a village by name Kumble in Kasaragod, Kerala on October 31, 1966. After completing his MBBS from Calicut University, he decided to dedicate his life to relieving people from pain, a cause he fervently cherished. In a determined bid to enhance his competence in medicine, he went on to pursue a post-graduate degree in medicine and got his MD from KIMS, Hubballi affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad in 1995. And as fate would have it, he sailed academically further, acquiring DNB in cardiology from Railway Hospital at Perambur in Chennai. His thirst for specialty earned him a merit seat for DM (cardiology) from the nation’s most prestigious medical school, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He passed DM (cardiology) in 2002.

Professional Career

Affiliated to FSCAI, FACC and FCSI, Dr. Yusuf has over the years transformed the lives of thousands of patients. He started his career in 1995 at B.M. Hospital, Calicut as a consultant physician, and later joined Wockhardt Hospital, Bengaluru as a junior consultant cardiologist. Subsequently, he worked as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Hospital, Mangalore.

He had his own dream of establishing his own hospital with Heart specialty section which he eventually fulfilled in 2011. Dr. Yusuf is the founder of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, and is currently serving as its Managing Director and Consultant/Chief Interventional Cardiologist.

Now an acclaimed medical practitioner, Dr. Yusuf has been honoured with many an accolades and laurels.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Yusuf has given lectures in academic and professional forums around the world, and is a regular in the CME circuits. Backed by impressive academic credentials and professional achievements, Dr. Yusuf A. Kumble now occupies the pride of place among Mangaluru’s cardiologists.
