Rare case of Highly contagious Pediatrics Diphtheria diagnosed @Indiana Children’s Institute

The child of 10 months old referred to Indiana Hospital for fever, breathlessness and difficulty in swallowing for the last 3 days.At the presentation, the child was sick and had breathing difficulty. Hence, the child was immediately resuscitated, airway secured and shifted to operation theatre for urgent intervention.Because of stromy suspicion, a throat swab was sent for diphtheria, which was confirmed. Treatment of diphtheria (crystalline penicillin) and diphtheria antitoxin was given to prevent the complications.Because of suspicion and early intervention, the baby was rescued and discharged without any complication.Prompt and complete vaccination could have prevented this deadly disease.
